TEA NEXT goes to East: the third stage of the new Trans-EurAsian communication line construction has started. December 12, 2023.

Rostelecom begins construction of the third stage of the new Trans-EurAsian fiber-optic communication line (TEA NEXT), which will stretch between the cities of Torzhok in the Tver region and Kyakhta in the Republic of Buryatia and will reach the eastern border of Russia with Mongolia. Atlas is the operator of the TEA NEXT project. It is planned that the construction of this section with a total length of about 6,300 km will be completed by the end of 2025 and thus, the first Phase of the TEA NEXT project will be fully completed between the main cities of the European part of Russia and the territory beyond the Urals and Siberia, as well as the opportunity to use the TEA NEXT infrastructure to extend towards Mongolia and China.

"The TEA NEXT project is one of the key ones for Rostelecom, especially taking into account the priorities set by the "Strategy for the Development of the communications industry until 2035", approved by the government of the Russian Federation in November this year. In particular, it noted the importance of modernizing existing backbone communication networks using domestic equipment and fiber-optic cable. The project is directly aimed at increasing the country's export telecommunications potential associated with the growth of traffic transmitted between Europe and the Asia-Pacific region," said Mikhail Oseevsky, President of Rostelecom.

Clients of TEA NEXT will be able to rent dark fibers and colocation spaces to install its equipment at ILA sites along the route of the fiber optic network, which will allow organizing a new generation of backbone communication networks within the country, as well as international transit lines between different regions of the world.
